Originally igniting as a pile burn or campfire, the blaze became out of control with the six crews and two national park units trying to control it. It raged on for roughly four hours while crews attempted to put out the fire several times.
Acting manager of the Orana RFS Brownyn Waters feels this fire should serve as a reminder to landowners ahead of the cooler weather.
"Landowners need to be aware that there is still a lot of fuel of there and landowners need to be very mindful when lighting fires and make sure they do not leave anything untended and insure they have good brakes and fire fighting capability in case a fire does break out," Ms Bronwyn said.
"Even though they (landowners) no longer require a permit as such they still need to notify the Rural Fire Service and their neighbours at least 24 hours prior to lighting. That's 365 days and that's legislated and they can do that online or ring the RFS."
