Ms Simmons spoke about how important it is for our seniors to keep motivated and stay connected.
She also shared her story on why she made the change from farmer to mental health nurse so late in her life.
"I have made a career out of helping, supporting people with mental health struggles and it is inspiring to see the changes that can be achieved for people with the right support," Ms Simmons said.
Orana Support Services Rajiv Bhattarai said the event was meant to provide an opportunity to promote positive community attitudes towards senior people and enhance community connections.
