Reports of a crash between two trucks on the Newell Highway were received just after 5am on Wednesday morning, with three NSW Ambulance crews being dispatched and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter also tasked to the incident as well.
One driver got out of his truck following the crash and was treated for a laceration to the head, while the other was trapped by confinement and compression, although paramedics were able to assess and treat him anyway.
With NSW Police, SES and Fire and Rescue crews on site as well, the man was eventually extricated and airlifted to Newcastle in a serious condition, with suspected pelvis and lower limb injuries at least.
The condition of the other driver is unconfirmed.
The highway was closed in both directions as a result of the crash and, as of 1.50pm, remained so.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area, and check Live Traffic for information regarding those detours and allow extra time.
