The Magpies played hosts to the Coonamble Bears and sent the Grizzlies back north as 38 to 4 losers in what was quite a remarkable turnaround for the club.

Trangie coach Jack Powell was pleased with the sides performance this early in the season.

"It was real good, from our fullback to our front-rowers they all gelled really well together and it just felt into place real nice," he said.

The win sets up an interesting clash with the Gilgandra at Gilgandra next Saturday, and they will be hoping to take their winning form into the match against the Panthers who will be having their first outing for the year.

The Magpies will travel to Gilgandra's McGrane Oval with the knowledge that the last time they made the trip, in the last round of the 2019 competition, they came away with the Boronia Cup after an impressive effort against the Panthers, their win costing the Panthers the minor premiership that year.

Powell knows the match will be a tough one for the Magpies but knows they can get the job done.

"Gilgandra has always been a tough side, especially against Trangie, there are one of them ones where we just have to get in the grind with them and just not let the foot of them because that's when they start scoring big points against us and we just can't let that happen," he said.

Meanwhile the Cobar Roosters took the long road trip to Baradine and came away with a hard earned 28 to 16 victory over a competitive Magpie outfit whilst just down the road the Coonabarabran Unicorns registered their first competition points when they managed to edge out the Gulgong Terriers 28 to 20 in a tense tussle.

The Unicorns will be hoping to repeat that winning form when they face the tough task of trying to topple the high flying Cobar Roosters out at Cobar in round 3.

Gulgong's Billy Dunn Oval should be well accommodated this Saturday with the Terriers drawn to play the Dunedoo Swans in what should be an absorbing local derby between two quality sides.

The remaining game will see another local derby being played at Baradine, with the Magpies at home to Coonamble. This clash was originally set down to be played at Coonamble but the venue has been swapped by mutual agreement between the two clubs and the day will feature the top of the table league tag clash to get things started.
