On arrival three Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews found a shed alight, with properties on either side threatened by the spread of the fire.
Additional resources, including a hazmat truck and tanker, were called in response to the "large volumes of black smoke" billowing from the house.
Police, NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to provide assistance, while firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Crews entered the right home of the duplex with reports there was a person at home at the time.
Following their search and rescue, firefighters did not come across any people inside the home.
Crews moved on to the other unit of the duplex when the shed roof collapsed giving firefighters restricted access.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 1pm, however remained on scene to monitor the site.
Leading station officer for Dubbo FRNSW Simon Bracht said "thankfully no one was home" as the property had been completely destroyed.
At this stage due to the intensity of the fire which caused the awning of the shed to collapse, the cause of the blaze is "undetermined".
"Normally at this stage of the operation I'd go in and do a fire investigation, but given the deemed point of origin is around the awning and garage area, it's not worth the risk to go in there, with the structural collapse in that area," he said.
With Fire and Rescue NSW crews attending multiple house fires this week, Superintendent Scott Dodson said it was a timely reminder for residents to develop their fire escape plan.
"Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency" he said.

Emergency services were called to Highview Place on Thursday afternoon after reports of a house fire.
When arriving at the scene they found a shed well alight, with properties on either side threatened by the spread of the fire.
A woman was in the house at the time, but escaped and was taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue NSW said the shed collapsed as a result of the fire.
"Due to the intensity of the fire, the shed structure collapsed, however no injuries were reported, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation."
Firefighters reported the fire to be under control just after 1pm, and will remain on scene for some time into the afternoon.
