The book, which she wrote at just 16-years-old, is a memoir of her own battles with depression, anxiety and going through them as a teenager whilst facing other challenges, in her case, her parents separation.
"I started writing in March into April of 2020. The book took hours and hours on end, I never had a break, I was editing on my 17th birthday and every holiday," Charlize said.
"I feel relieved [launching it], it has been a night I have been working on and imaging for a year and even before that when I was little I had all intentions to write a book and the amount of positive feedback from people that have read it has been absolutely overwhelming. Everyone from teachers, students and adults in general have all stated its a book that you can't put down and you need a box of tissues on the side to read.
"It feels surreal that this is my reality at the age of 17."
Charlize said the support she has had from family and her school has also been 'extraordinary'.
"The leeway I have received from my year coordinator and teachers, the help with my mental health and the challenge of releasing a book whilst in school, maintaining a job, volunteering down at headspace and managing a social life has been a rollercoaster and I wouldn't have been able to do it without my support network.
"I was quite unsure the whole time whilst writing it, but after writing, analysing and understanding my own story, it led me to see that I could help someone. The person I was when I first started writing was still stuck in a negative mindset, still dwelling about my parents divorce and understanding the reality of grief and the harsh concept that the world lives on. Our intention is quite the opposite.
"This book is the essence of who I am and every person in my book has changed my perspective on who I am, why I am this way, why I have dedicated the rest of my journey to helping people struggling with mental health."
