Ms Welbourne is one of the stars taking part in the Cancer Council fundraiser. It pairs local people with Dubbo dance schools to learn a performance for the gala night at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre.

"I lost my dad to an aggressive form of cancer last April so I thought it was a really good cause to support," Ms Welbourne said.

"I used to dance when I was younger and my dad used to come and watch me all the time so this is my last time to dance for Dad."

Ms Welbourne's dad Paul Mines was also passionate about improving cancer services for Dubbo. He played an integral role in campaigning for the Western Cancer Centre via his volunteer work with Rotary.

"Dr [Colin] McClintock was his specialist because Dad had renal failure and was on dialysis for 27 years. He had a successful kidney transplant in 2005 and Dr McClintock was his urologist," Ms Welbourne said.

"They were talking about it and they just went 'let's get a petition together, let's get the signatures'."

The petition calling for a cancer centre in Dubbo received 46,000 signatures.

With the dance focusing on her dad, Ms Welbourne admits she will be nervous.

"I might not raise the most amount of money but hopefully I'll touch some people's lives with the dance," she said.

"Cancer in one way or another eventually affects everyone."

And thankfully she'll have her loved ones there on the night to give her plenty of support.

"They weren't surprised [I'm taking part]. I think when I explained to them what was driving me they were very supportive. It's the one year anniversary on April 2 since Dad passed away so it's very timely," the star said.

Having shaved her head earlier in the week, Ms Welbourne's family area used to her charitable acts.

This weekend Ms Welbourne will be holding a memorial for her dad so all his friends and loved ones are given the chance to say goodbye.

In lieu of flowers, she's asking anyone who attends to consider donating to the Cancer Council.

Ms Welbourne has also asked anyone with items they would like to donate to the Stars of Dubbo Dance for Cancer auction to get in touch with her.

The Stars of Dubbo Dance for Cancer will be held on Friday, April 30. Tickets are available via stars.cancercouncil.com.au/event/stars-of-dubbo/.

Donations to Ms Welbourne and the other participants can also be made via the event website.
