Now, South Dubbo United are a win away from being crowned RSL Pinnington Cup champions after already winning the competitions minor premiership.
Losing only four matches all season, United were given the week off as Newtown played RSL Colts for the opportunity to play in the grand final.
United captain Yogi Chawla credited his sides love and commitment to cricket with a handful of players having to travel hours to play each Saturday in Dubbo.
"Two of them come from Parkes every Monday they drive here and drive back twice a week, if you tell them middle of the night we are doing a net at indoor they will literally drive here and say I'll come," he said
"That's the whole idea, a few of the boys I didn't even know that played cricket is just through a third party."
"They said I know this fella who plays cricket and I said well bring him to the nets and a few came to the nets and actually went pretty good,"

Chawla said playing in Saturday's grand final regardless of the result is an achievement in itself for the team who barely knew each other this time last year.
"Yeah it's exciting, we didn't really expect to make it that far and the boys are happy, we are just happy that we made a grand final regardless if we win or lose there's not too much worry about it," he said.
Several of the players have played first grade in Dubbo before including Chawla, Rajat Rai and Saad Khan.
Rai was awarded Pinnington Cup top run-scorer and best and fairest for the grade while leg-spinner Chawla claimed the most wickets and finished second in the best and fairest award.
"A few played previously, but the majority are first-timers a few played in thirds but five or six are inexperienced which balances out the team and there rest of us are there to balance as well," he said
Some of the team played in the Dubbo Premier League prior to playing in the DDCA competition and Chawla said the popular competition is likely to return this season.
"The boys who organised have their own team and they had to travel out of town to play and they came up with an idea why not have it here and I think they are doing it again this year," he said
The playing group have made history by being the first fully sub-continent team to play in Dubbo and Chawla said cricket has bought the players from different backgrounds together.
"It's good for the community, we have a completely sub-continent team, I have two from Pakistan, one from Bangladesh and the rest from different parts of India, so it has bought everyone together which is the whole idea that has never happened in Dubbo," he said.
South Dubbo United will play Newtown in the grand final and are expecting a host of supporters to be present at No 2 Oval on Saturday at 1pm.
"There has always been six teams for the last however many years so it is a big achievement for us bringing all the community together and it wouldn't really surprise me if we have more than 100 people coming to watch the game on the weekend."
Regardless of the final result, South Dubbo United's 2020/21 season will be remembered for years to come.
