The three-storey building accommodates a new emergency department and a new aboriginal health service which will also open on Wednesday as well as a cancer centre, imaging facilities, ambulatory care centre and a cardiac catheterisation lab which will open in coming months.
Redevelopment change manager Kerrie O'Neill said the Aboriginal Health Service, located to the far left of the building entrance as opposed to its original location at the back of the hospital, was one of the main changes identified by public.
"Our new front Aboriginal Health Service meets the demand of the public, which was to be able to identify it from the front of the hospital," she said.
Chief executive officer of the Western NSW Local Health District Scott McLachlan was invited to a smoking ceremony conducted by Lewis Burns on Monday, where he also toured the facility.
"It's an exciting moment, we now have a special space for our Aboriginal community where they can feel comfortable and safe coming to," he said.
"After the development of nearly 10 years, it's an outstanding outcome which will provide care for the whole of the region."
Ms O'Neill said the redevelopment has been well received by clinical users, with the design of the space reflective of their input.
"The clinical users were readily involved with the design of the state of the art clinical facilities," she said.
"At the beginning, we took our clinical users to more than 30 hospitals and we found that the more engaged clinical use is, the better the outcome.
"The designs were approved four years ago, so it has taken a lot of commitment to see them through.
"[The redevelopment] will also deliver a lot of opportunities for staff to grow their expertise.
"We have a new cancer centre which provides new services at Dubbo Hospital such as PET-CT diagnostics and radiotherapy. We also have a cardiac catheterisation lab which is also a new service."
Ms O'Neill said the new development will help to keep hospital staff as well as attract new staff.
Work is now set to commence on the construction of the Dubbo Hospital car park redevelopment project which will deliver more than 350 spaces within a multi-storey parking facility next to the $35 million Western Cancer Centre and an on-grade car park close to the new front-of-house area.
