Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) manager Linda Christoff said they had just the perfect excuse for a family outing in store.

The DRTCC will be hosting the production of The Midnight Gang, which will take to the stage for a total of four separate shows.

"Take advantage of the last days of daylight saving with plenty of time to watch the show, have an early dinner and get the kids off to bed," Ms Christof said.

The Midnight Gang is based on the bestselling book by author David Williams.

The production follows the story of the lead character Tom, a 12-year-old boy who unexpectedly finds himself lonely and lost in St Crook's Hospital and at the mercy of Evil Matron.

Tom feels like he'll never be able to leave, but his friends and fellow hospital patients have a light bulb moment which leads them to believe otherwise.

Tom and his new friends end up going on a series of adventures as the team behind The 13-, 26-, 52-, 78- and 91-Storey Treehouses.

Characters Mr Stink and Billionaire Boy will no doubt win the hearts of the audience and help to capture the celebration of friendship, love and the power of the imagination for children six-and-up and their families.

Ms Christoff recommends families come to the 6 pm production on Tuesday, March 23 for a top of the tier experience.

"Although, those attending the 12.30 pm performance are fortunate to catch the Q&A that follows," she said.

"The 60-minute comical drama and good-natured fun with a mature edge will appeal to young and the young-at-heart.

"There's something about the title 'midnight' and 'gang' that will conjure up exciting childhood memories for many people of sleepovers, eating too many lollies and being told to be quiet and go to sleep."

Dubbo mayor Ben Shields said it is good to see the broad reach DRTCC has had following the success of recent shows.

"It's great to see school groups travelling from Parkes, Cobar, Baradine, Mudgee and Tooraweenah to see a show," he said.

March 23 at 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, and again at 6 pm, as well as Wednesday, March 24 at 10:30 am.

The Midnight Gang will be in town for those two days only.
