The officers will be stationed in Dubbo, Gilgandra, Coonamble, Narromine and Wellington.

The probationary constables will undergo a program which pairs them with an experienced officer to help them learn quickly on the job

Dubbo's newest police officer Steve Gay is excited for the opportunity to make a difference in the community.

"[Dubbo] was my first pick, I was pretty excited when the news came through, I put here and another country location and then we had to put three city locations. I wasn't really excited about moving to the city but I'm happy to be back here with my young family," Mr Gay said.

"Just learning from the experience that is here, I think in the room this morning we had between three guys with 70 years experience so learning from that is pretty exciting,"

Mr Gay praised the police academy and what was taught in a short amount of time.

"It was quick, time flew. We did a lot online and had eight weeks weapons training, of course it would be great to do more training but due to time constraints and COVID we had to get out as quick as we could,"

Mr Gay is set to be stationed in Dubbo for three years but hopes following that period he can stay here longer.

Orana Mid-Western Local Area Command superintendent Peter McKenna said it is an exciting time for the five new officers in the region.

"They are going to spread around the district from Dubbo, Gilgandra, Narromine, Coonamble and Wellington. It's a welcome to those communities as well as an exciting time today. I've spoken to the team already and told them you are about to embark on a journey I think you are going to love, it's the best job in the world as far as I'm concerned," he said.

Supt. McKenna said the newest officers will face challenging times during their work in the region.

"Making sure people are safe in the community (is a priority) and part of that is that they are going to go up against some bad guys, some people who choose to do the wrong thing and it's their job to bring them to justice and victims are given protection and support, no two days are the same in the job, you could be sitting down at a computer to throwing your lunch in the bin and racing out the door, you don't know what's going to happen next and it's exciting times,"

"We have a breadth of experience here some guys are just out of school and some have been in the work force."
