Now at the start of 2021, she has been welcomed into the principal's role at Dubbo St John's College and is already determined to build on and grow its traditions.

"I want to continue to build on the great work that has already been done at St John's College," Mrs Morton said.

"It's a very vibrant school and I feel blessed to be in the position I am in.

"The staff and families are wonderful.

"I'm looking forward to increasing and strengthening our parenting engagement- it's the most contributing factor in a students success.

"I also want to build on the relationships with our students and ensure each student has opportunities for success and that we are supporting their journey towards whatever it is they dream of or aspire to do."

Mrs Morton, who relocated to Dubbo for the job, said the "special thing" about St John's College "being a catholic school" was its sense of self, social justice and the staff's drive to be their best selves and to encourage their students to be their best selves.

"St John's College is also lucky enough to have an amazing priest in Father Greg who provides amazing guidance and support, which is essential," she said.

Mrs Morton said she and her family had moved locations "quite a bit" and had found Dubbo to have one of the most friendly and welcoming communities, which she said was not always the case.

"It's been a fantastic move," she said.

"We've found Dubbo to be extremely welcoming. I feel very blessed."
