She has also had other close friends and family members including her eldest son who have lost their hair due to chemo treatment.
But it was February 8, the anniversary of Matthew's death, that she decided it was time to give back by raising money for the Narromine Cancer Support Group.
"I was just thinking about Matthew and thinking he was so brave, he was only six-years-old and stood out the front of the class with his bald head and took of his cap off and said 'I've lost my hair because I'm having treatment', she said.
I thought wow, if this little six-year-old boy can be that brave, what's a bit of hair to me.

"I thought wow, if this little six-year-old boy can be that brave, what's a bit of hair to me."
Ms Kelly said being a former community nurse in Narromine it was important to give back to the local community to help deal with an illness that doesn't discriminate.
"I've been touched by it very personally as well as professionally so I just thought well it's time to give back a bit," she said.
"I'm a healthy person and my hair grows like a weed, so it won't hurt me to shave it off and hopefully raise a bit of money."
The Narromine Cancer Support Group is an organisation that supports people in the shire who have received a cancer diagnosis. All money raised by the organisation or the community stays within the shire to support those who need help financially and help with equipment people might need when recuperating.
"When people are first diagnosed with cancer, I mean you're not planning for it," Ms Kelly said.
"I know when [husband] Rob had to go to Sydney, I had to jump on a plane at 6.30 in the morning, then suddenly you've got to find $500 for an airfare.
"The costs really are phenomenal, people don't ever take that into account."
So far Ms Kelly has raised almost $800, however hopes to reach $3500.
Owner of Mirror Hair Lounge in Narromine, Elayna Ried will be shaving Ms Kelly's locks on March 12.
