When the "devastating" news mother-of-three and grandmother Sue Dawson had stage four pancreatic cancer was delivered to family and friends they felt as though the ground beneath them began to crumble.
Daughter Sarah Dawson said the news "has hit our family hard" and given them little time to piece together the family's next steps.
"Just last week we were told mum only has a limited amount of time left," she said.
In a bid to make the most of Sue's remaining time with her grandchildren, daughters and loved ones, a GoFundMe page has been set up to accumulate donations.
"With this news has come many extra costs that we just weren't prepared for and we would really appreciate anything anyone is willing to give to help with the costs of travel, accommodation and general quality of life supplies," Miss Dawson said.
"Mum will also be starting chemotherapy soon which will require her to travel to and from Dubbo."
Miss Dawson said Sue has been an active member of the Narromine community since 1997 and had no doubt made her mark on the town.
"She is one of the founding members of the Narromine Netball Club and has worked for the Narromine Preschool, Treseders Hardware and has done Family Day Care most of her life."
The Dawsons had received donations from people and businesses across Narromine which they are using to host a morning tea for Sue to enjoy some quality time with loved ones.
"We wanted to have something for mum where she can enjoy some time with her friends and family before she's too unwell," Miss Dawson said.
"We will raise money by raffling off the donations as one big prize."
The afternoon tea will be held this Saturday in Narromine.
Friends who would like to attend, or those who want to know more about the raffle can contact Sarah on Facebook.
