A 41-year-old remains in a critical condition after being repeatedly hit in the head during a fight in Walgett.

About 12.30am on Thursday, emergency services were called to Hope Street in Walgett after a man was found outside a home with serious head and facial injuries.
The 41-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics and was taken to Walgett Hospital.

He was later placed in an induced coma, before being flown to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. He is reported to be in a critical condition.
Police were told the man had been hit repeatedly in the head during a fight with another man.
Officers from Central North Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries, police arrested a 40-year-old man at Walgett Hospital about 2.10pm on Thursday.
The 40-year-old man, known to the injured man, was taken to Walgett Police Station and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and will appear at Dubbo Local Court on Friday.
