When the Under Western Skies Festival kicks off next month it will be reintroducing the 2000s pop-punk music scene with Albury-based band Catnip Kaiser in the mix.

The four-piece has never before performed in Dubbo.
Catnip Kaiser drummer Blake Furness said it will also be their first time performing as part of the festival.
"We couldn't be any more excited," he said.
"The band feels good. We are all ready to bring a live-show to all music lovers, especially those who enjoyed the early 2000s pop-punk tunes."
Catnip Kaiser takes inspiration from notorious 2000s bands such as Sum 41, Blink 182, Green Day and Fall Out Boy.
"We have never performed in Dubbo, and we cannot wait to meet the local people and entertain them for a whole weekend," Furness said.
"We would love to expand into more regional towns, and then hopefully head towards playing more city shows and/or festivals."
Furness said they also love getting out into the music scene and meeting other musicians.
"Music is one language, and we love getting to meet other musicians and hear of their stories, their musical inspirations, and we also just like to listen to all kinds of music styles," he said.
"We love pop-punk. Tunes from the early 2000s artists such as Sum 41, Blink 182, Green Day, Fall Out Boy, and many more, we take inspiration from them.
"Our demographic ranges, however at most shows we see people from the late teens to mid-30s."
Catnip Kaiser has shared the stage with big national and international artists from The Ugly Kings and British India to Antagonist AD.
"Catnip Kaiser brings an energetic, feel-good show to its live audiences. Our original songs are stacked with relatable lyrics,and our covers are performed with exciting twists," Furness said.
"We've collaborated with Ionei Heckenberg from Ocean Sleeper, as well as an unreleased track featuring Dan Brown of the Amity Affliction."
The band was formed in 2018 and it is thanks to Charles Sturt University that it did.
"In 2018, Charles Sturt University needed a band to play at one Uni Night. In came Catnip Kaiser, and the rest is history," Furness said.
"Jack (frontman) and I (drummer) knew each other from High School, whilst Josh (bassist) and Jayden (Lead Guitar) work together.
"After some jam sessions, it just felt right and we started picking up more gigs and more listeners."
Furness said COVID-19 did not really help last year, but it allowed the band to get together and play more.
"Now we are recording, both a single and an album which is set for release later in the year," he said.
"In fact, there may even be a new tune to play come the weekend of Under Western Skies."
Catnip Kaiser will be performing as part of the Under Western Skies Music Festival Friday, March 19, at CWA Hall and Saturday, March 20 at the Amaroo Hotel.
