While Mr Koerstz was reluctant to celebrate the milestone, he feels that it is worth recognising.

"We are going to make a day of it, balloons and a cake and head off for a few drinks and have a celebration at the end of the day but it's hard to believe it has been 30 years and I think it's an achievement we probably should want to be part of," he said.

Mr Koerstz felt the secret to his long tenure in the pharmacy industry came down to a combination of a lot of things.

"I think you've gotta enjoy what you are doing and the one good thing is I've been really fortunate here in South Dubbo that we have a community that have been very loyal and also have become like friends to me, most of the people I know now by their first name and I know their families.

"I've actually seen the generations grow, my first customers children are now having children so I've seen nearly three generations of kids and that's what keeps you motivated because there is that new blood and new people come in,"

Modestly, Mr Koerstz feels he has been lucky over his 30 years as a business owner and credited his staff and family for their support, which includes his son Angus who now works at the pharmacy alongside his father.

"The other big [factor] obviously is your staff, I've been very fortunate with staff they have been motivated and they have been keen. That keeps me motivated and keen trying to keep up with them because as the younger ones come in their knowledge is different to mine, so it's a combination of a lot of things, I've been well supported by my family as well as my wife and children so I've been pretty lucky really,"

Mr Koerstz feels the best part of his time so far in the industry and Dubbo was the contribution to the community he feels his business has made.

"I feel really part of this community in South Dubbo, whilst it is a rewarding thing to think you are contributing to the general health of the community, overall I've been very lucky."

Although he may not be as keen as he was 30 years ago, Mr Koerstz feels running a business in modern times is a lot more difficult then it once was.

"Whilst I'm not as keen to come to work as I once was, I still love it once I get here. I think it's a good industry to be in even though there haven't been a lot of changes and things are different when we first started I think things were a lot easier than they are now, paper trails and all the things you have to have to run a business now, it was just so much easier but that's modern life."
