In January, councillors voted to close Old Mendooran Road between Boothenba Road and the Golden Highway.
The road was deemed to be a safety risk by council due to the poor alignment and history of crashes at the intersection. In the last six years there have been six known crashes, all of them have involved trucks.
In November last year, a 28-year-old woman was killed.
At the council meeting, councillors said those in the area supported the closure, but Old Mendooran Road residents strongly oppose the idea.

Speaking on behalf of the Old Mendooran residents, Andy Caldin said the biggest concern was that closing the section of road would only push the safety issue to the intersection of Boothenba Road and the Golden Highway.
"You can imagine if they're going to close that road we're going to have to turn right onto Boothenba and the Golden Highway and we'll end up in an accident because it's a 100 kilometre [per hour] road on a difficult junction," he said.
"We don't understand why other methods of traffic control haven't been employed, like rumble strips or increasing the signage and paintwork on the road. Even trimming the trees and the hedges and the grass on the side of the road to ensure better visibility on that junction."
In addition to the safety issues, Dr Caldin said it was also a location for "hooligans" to do burnouts at the weekends.
He said attempts to raise the issues with council had not been heard.
"You think they would involve the people who live along Old Mendooran Road."
It's part of Old Mendooran Road and they didn't involve anybody who lived along Old Mendooran Road," Dr Caldin said.
Councillor John Ryan and deputy mayor Stephen Lawrence were invited to speak to the residents when they met on Saturday.
Cr Ryan admitted there had been a "communication breakdown".
"I was contacted and spoke to a lot of people about the closure of the road and every single person was way in favour of it, aside from one conversation. That was people who live along Boothenba, people who live out towards Ballimore, people who use the Golden Highway. These were the people who contacted me. No one from Old Mendooran Road had contacted me," he said.
When asked if the road closure decision could or would be reversed, the councillor said it "would be difficult".
"It's going to be very difficult to justify keeping it open or to reverse that decision from both an engineering and cost perspective. To my mind, it's by far the most dangerous intersection that I know of in this local government area," Cr Ryan said.
Cr Ryan has asked the residents to collate their concerns to see what issues can be addressed.
"At the end of the day, it's going to come down to cost and what's affordable... I would love to wave my magic wand...but there's just not the money bucket to do it unfortunately."
To close the 540 metres of the road, council has said the pavement will be demolished and the area will be returned to natural bushland.
Once the road is closed, the intersection between Old Mendooran Road and Boothenba Road will be corrected to 90 degrees.
