A development application has been submitted to council for a new Bunnings at the former RAAF base, which is currently being re-developed.
The new space will be so large, a further 60 staff members will be hired.
A 500-space car park will also be constructed, and the building will be over double the size of the current site.
Once the development application has been approved by council work will begin, with mayor Ben Shields saying 'there are a number of processes that this has to go through before final approval'.
Cr Shields said he 'believed the zoning at the site was already appropriate.'
It's the first of many 'exciting announcements' for the site which are expected to come over the next few months, according to developer Mark Stanford.
"This will the be the first of many DAs that'll be lodged and we're really going to see not only our site but the city of Dubbo kick along," he said.
It's a lift for businesses around the region who have been hit hard over the past few years through drought and then covid-19 restrictions last year and some more positive news for the RAAF base development, with the site sitting idle for a number of years.
It wasn't until July last year when work finally got underway at the former RAAF site on Cobra Street, with significant work made over the past six months.
Two-thirds of the site will be retail and commercial use while the other third will be residential.
There will also be 10.8 hectares of open space.
And, looking at the old, the announcement has already started the talk as to what will happen to the current Bunnings site. What would you like to see take over the current building? Comment below.
