Prior to Christmas, there was a cap of 250 participants allowed to take part in the event. That number filled up within 45 minutes of registrations opening.
Eventually that number was able to increase to 400, which once again, filled out for this past weekend's event.
A total of 47 clubs from regional NSW and the ACT were there on the day, with athletes vying for medals, personal bests and even a shot at nationals.
A visiting team from Albury took the top spot overall, with Dubbo easing into second place after some standout performances from the region's young swimmers.
Swimmers like Joely Bruce and Bianca Fuller took out top spots in their categories, along with a number of swimmers who put in game performances and bested their previous times.
Dubbo Swimtech Club president Jay Forrester said it was a great overall result that showed how hard the athletes had been training in preparation.
"It's pretty exciting having a bit of a new crew - with a lot of young talent coming through - at Swimtech," Forrester said.
"We've really been honing in on that strong work ethic and a good attitude towards training, and it's obviously paying off in the pool."
Particularly good news for the club, who had seen their ability to both compete and train hampered last year as the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions caused community sport, and a lot of their chances to train, cancelled.
"COVID really did impact us, it definitely impacted our chances to train, but for a few of the older competitors it was a good time to refresh," Forrester said.
"Having access to the pool, and some good weather, we had enough chances to get back into the water and put the hours in to really improve and get some good times and really live up to the expectations of how we could perform."
Forrester and the rest of the team at Swimtech are already looking ahead to the Western regional championships, which are expected to start in early February.
"That's for the western area clubs, who'll all get to come and attend a two-day carnival in Dubbo, that's a really good chance for us stamp in the position of being a good performing club in the area," Forrester said.
"We've won the club championships for the last few years, but that's a bit to do with club size, we're helped out with numbers against the smaller clubs."
"A lot of kids are already preparing for school carnivals and competitions during the school period, then in March we have the country championships in Sydney, and state in April."
