David Pattinson said he was "humbled" and "astonished" to have been named the Dubbo Regional Council 2021 Senior Citizen of the Year.

Mr Pattinson received the award for his dedication to helping people from all backgrounds in the community during the 2021 Australia Day ceremony.
Growing up in West Dubbo, Mr Pattinson said he came from humble beginnings, which he had "inherited" and passed on through his day-to-day life.

"I can remember my dad saying on a few occasions, I can't remember how many, when he was asked by people he helped, they would say 'how can we ever repay you?'," he said.
"His standard reply would be 'go and do the same for somebody else, go and help someone else'.
"Growing up in a family with a philosophy like that, it's inherited and rubbed off and seen as an example. It's very gratifying."
Mr Pattinson has been described as having spent his entire life helping those around him and always focusing on the needs of others.
His contribution to the community began more than 60 years ago through the Rural Fire Service and has expanded from there.
Many of his activities are related to his strong faith and dedication to the Uniting Church, where he's been responsible for the upkeep and repairs of the church, and has been running Sunday school and youth programs for several years.
It is not exaggeration to say that David Pattinson is one of the most generous and giving people in the Dubbo community.
He also volunteered as a driving instructor with Uniting Burnside allowing disadvantaged people with little access to a registered vehicle and supervising driver a chance to meet the requirements to sit their licence.
Mr Pattinson is a member of the Palmer Street Singers, who perform at events around the city, and contributes to the development of future generations of singers as an assistant at the Dubbo Eisteddfod.
"It is not exaggeration to say that David Pattinson is one of the most generous and giving people in the Dubbo community," his citation read.
"Those who know David describe him as more than just a quiet achiever and more of a silent hero."
Mr Pattinson has particularly assisted with those who are isolated, and uses his ability to always look for the good in others, has visited prisoners in incarceration to provide them with guidance.
"His compassion and caring for people who are struggling, and his focus on their mental health and wellbeing has changed the lives of many," his citation described.
"David's contribution to the local community cannot be summed up in a few hundred words but the sheer list of organisations and community groups he is involved with, and the people he has assisted during their time of need, is a testament to him."
