About 5.35am on Saturday police had received reports a 42-year-old man had been lying on the Mitchell Highway at Narromine before he was hit by a Toyota Hilux.

Officers attached to the Orana Mid-Western Police District attended along with NSW Ambulance paramedics who rendered first aid to the man.
He was taken to Dubbo Hospital where he remains in a serious, but stable condition.
The driver of the Toyota Hilux, a 54-year-old man, was given a road side breath test which was negative and was taken for further mandatory testing.
Investigations into the matter continue.
