The city has experienced a steady increase in the average price of unleaded fuel since December 17.
It has risen more than five cents per litre in Dubbo.
It's a trend many towns and cities across the region and state are observing to start the new year.
On Monday afternoon the average cost of unleaded fuel in Dubbo was 119.9 cents per litre, which was quite high compared to Orange at 114.5 cents and Bathurst which was slightly more expensive at 115.7 cents per litre.
We have seen an upward trend in the central west but the prices are still pretty stable.
- NRMA spokesperson Rebecca Page
Other towns in the region with higher prices included Parkes (128 cents per litre), Blayney (124) and Lithgow (119.8).
"We have seen an upward trend in the central west but the prices are still pretty stable, particularly in places like Bathurst and Orange," NRMA spokesperson Rebecca Page said.
"They've had fluctuations of a few cents per litre here and there, and that upward trend is a follow-on from the increase in Sydney prices, the average price in Sydney [on Monday was] 127.6 cents per litre.
"The good news for motorists in the central west is that they shouldn't expect to see those kinds of highs that we see in Sydney."
However, Ms Page did say the NRMA expects petrol prices to continue following that upward trend in line with metropolitan prices.
"We do expect those prices to continue increasing slightly but the biggest message we give to drivers is to make sure they do their own research and find the cheapest price because they do vary," she said.
She urged motorists to check the government and NRMA's Fuel Check app and website for live prices which, on Monday afternoon showed the best price on offer in Dubbo was 109.9.
Across the central west the cheapest option in Orange was a full five cents below the average at 109.5 cents per litre and in Bathurst the ceapest was 105.5 cents per litre.
According to the Fuel Check app, Dubbos diesel prices compared favourable with other major centres in the region, with prices ranging between 115.9 and 130.9 cents per litre.
In Orange the price of diesel was between 107.9 and 122.9 while in Orange it was 109.9 and 122.9 cents per litre.
