A man has been charged following an investigation into the cause of a bushfire which threatened a township near Lightning Ridge last year.

About 9.30am on November 21, 2020, emergency services responded to reports of a bushfire burning approximately two kilometres north west of Grawin, near Lightning Ridge.
About 218 hectares of bushland was destroyed across 10 days.

Officers attached to Central North Police District attended and allege a Toyota Landcruiser found bogged in the area was the point of origin of the fire.
Following inquiries, police arrested a 53-year-old man at Walgett Police Station, about 9.10am on Friday.
The man was charged with intentionally light fire and be reckless as to its spread.
He was bail refused and will appear at Walgett Local Court at a later date.
