The diversion for light vehicles via Muswellbrook and Scone has been lifted.
EARLIER:
Emergency services are attending a truck and car crash that has closed the Golden Highway near Merriwa on Tuesday afternoon.
The highway is closed in both directions about 10 kilometres south of Merriwa, the Transport Management Centre has reported.
Emergency and traffic crews were responding, the centre said.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and delay their trip.
The highway links Dubbo with Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.
Alternate routes have been advised.
Westbound light vehicles diversions are via Denman Road through Muswellbrook, the New England Highway through Scone, then Scone to Merriwa Road, the centre said.
Eastbound is the reverse.
Heavy vehicles are held on site.
