Both Under 16s and 19s sides have been formed to represent the Western region in competition at the Country Championships in the Australian Capital Territory later this year.

Black, who moved to Bathurst from Wellington in order to pursue further sport and schooling opportunities, will feature as part of the Bathurst contingent of the powerhouse under 16s side.

Bathurst girls have filled 10 of the 20 players selected across the 16s and 19s teams, who each start their respective campaigns this Monday and Wednesday.

Filling out half of the selections is an special achievement for girl's cricket in the city and two of those players, Amy Kreuzberger and Hannah Knight, have earned the captaincy roles.

Kreuzberger heads an under 19s team consisting of Bathurst players Belinda Kidd, Knight, Chloe Stapleton and Ella Tilburg.

Knight's 16s feature Bathurst's Stapleton, Tilburg, Callee Black, Gabby Bennett, Chelsea Miller and Nikera Hann.

Western will be determined to bounce back in the under 19s competition after they went winless from their four games in the 2019-20 edition, and the under 16s have more success in their sights after winning two of their three pool matches last season.

Both Kreuzberger and Knight - along with Bathurst players Kidd, Black and Bennett - have been enjoying testing their skills in the Sydney competition with Penrith.

Kreuzberger, a former under 15s national representative and Western's top run scorer at last season's championships, is excited to lead the squad.

"Playing for Penrith has been fun. It's a tough competition but I'm enjoying it. I've been playing in first and second grade, whichever one I'm needed in," she said.

"This Western team has quite a few Bathurst girls and has players from all around the area. It's nice to play alongside different people. I feel like we've got a really strong bowling side this year."

Knight is one of several players back for another crack with the Western under 16s side, who narrowly missed out on a place in last year's final.

"We have a strong team down in 16s. There's a lot of younger girls in the team with a lot of ability," Knight said.

"This is a good group of girls. I've got a lot of confidence in our team. We should have been in the grand final last year so we're hoping to make it this time."

All matches will once again be played under Twenty20 conditions.

The under 16s start their campaign on Monday at Queanbeyan while the under 19s begin on Wednesday with a clash against the same opponents, ACT Southern Districts, at Belconnen.
