Dr Femy Koratty was selected as the national winner of the 2020 CPMEC Award after all inputs from all Postgraduate Medical Councils, or equivalent agencies, across Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Koratty said her initial response to learning she had been announced as the winner of the award was utter shock.

"I wasn't expecting it at all," she said.

"I was very surprised."

The former St John's College student, who graduated from the college in 2012, said her education was pivotal in shaping her into who she is today.

"St John's College definitely taught me hard work and work ethic and it made me who I am today," the doctor said.

Dr Koratty said she first released she wanted to become a doctor when she was a teenager.

"I knew I didn't want to have an office job," she said.

"And I knew that I wanted to do something with meaning."

Dr Koratty is now based as a doctor in Darwin and at 25-years-old says her career thus far has been rewarding.

"It's a hard job," she admitted.

"There's a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes and a lot of 13-hour days."

Dr Koratty said the support from friends and family was crucial.

"I'd like to say thank you to all of my friends and family members, they're definitely a big part of why I have been able to continue working to the best of my ability."
