Jenny and Bob Johnson started the family tradition for their 11 grandchildren, but the displays have since garnered Dubbo's attention, with cars driving past daily to see the view, and others posting to social media to share their approval.
"We started the tradition a few years ago for the kids. I've always enjoyed Christmas and it is something I believe is quite special, so we wanted to do something special," Mrs Johnson said.
"It is a family effort.
"We have four kids, so we all get involved in the painting and decorating and our youngest son, who is quite smart and creative, does all of the freehand stuff."
Mrs Johnson said she enjoys seeing other residents bringing their kids out to see the displays.
"We love knowing that other people have been enjoying it," she said.
Mrs Johnson said residents are more than welcome to take their kids for a drive out to see the displays.
The Johnsons make their hay, which is where the idea to paint and decorate the hay bales and place them into different shapes stemmed from.
