The south east of Dubbo is expected to have the biggest growth within the next decade, according to Dubbo Regional Council.

Manager infrastructure strategy and design Chris Godrey said Dubbo currently has about 14,800 homes and a population of 37,800 people.

Every day, about 178,000 trips are made throughout the city.

It includes 19,500 trips across the LH Ford Bridge and another 17,300 across the Serisier.

By 2055 it's predicted Dubbo will have about 22,800 homes and a population of 55,000. The number of daily vehicle trips will increase to about 244,000.

Mr Godrey said this year, the biggest area for residential growth in Dubbo was in the south east, primarily within Keswick Estate, Southlakes, Magnolia Estate and Macquarie View Estate.

That growth is expected to continue.

"It's expected that from 2020 to 2030 and additional 1150 new house will be built in this area," he said.

"Between 2030 and 2040 a further 800 new house will be constructed and between 2040 and 2055 we don't expect to see a great deal further of development in this area because as land will be mostly exhausted."

By 2055 the biggest area of growth in Dubbo will be to the west of the Macquarie River, in the north west urban release area and around Minore Road.

The population growth data and increase in vehicle trips has highlighted to Dubbo Regional Council the need for another river crossing, like the proposed South Dubbo bridge.

Mr Godrey said it would ensure Dubbo remained a '10 minute city'.
