Grassy Knoll brewery, working out of Bulli Brewing at Unanderra, south of Sydney, has teamed up with industry body Avocados Australia to brew the limited-release Aussie Avo cream ale.
Brewer Jeff Argent was in two minds when they asked him to make the beer.
"I definitely had reservations," he said
"At first I thought 'wow is that even possible?' but at the same time I thought it would be a fun beer to make. There was just a bit of research and a few calls around to talk to people who had experience of it before. It turned out it wasn't as daunting as I first thought."
But it was messy, Argent had to de-seed around 40 avocados, and then put the flesh into a kitchen blender before climbing a ladder to pour it into the fermenter.
"It's based on the trend now with oat cream beers, we took out the oat part and added in the avos."
