What a year 2020 has been, Dubbo Christian School principal Warren Melville said.
"It did not quite turn out the way many had imagined, and it brought a whole lot of shifts to our school," Mr Melville said.
"Yet one of the things this year has shown us is what a resilient and caring community our school has.
"From preschool to year 12, from parents to staff, we have seen how well our community has worked together to meet the challenges of 2020.
"This has certainly been a year of adopting new formats for the things we normally do.
"Learning was shifted to completely online for a time, and we became very acquainted with video conferencing to deliver lessons and check in on students to make sure they were OK.
"Sports, excursions, and other activities were postponed or cancelled to focus on keeping each other safe in the midst of the pandemic.
"But how we missed our students and families when they were away.
"School was quiet and just didn't feel right.
"Our mission is to provide authentic, responsive and high-quality education that is Bible-based and Christ-centred to prepare, equip and transform lives.
"In 2020, we needed to be very responsive as a school community in maintaining our mission.
"Partnership with parents in a child's education is one of the key distinctives of our school, and we have seen that partnership take on a new and very valued dimension this year.
"Our students as well, have been very responsive to the changing nature of this year.
"For example, just because we could not hold whole school assemblies did not mean our year 12s could not lead worship.
"They still did so by pre-recording songs and creating encouraging videos for our student-body.
"Despite the upheaval of the many challenges our school has faced this year, our community has been a great blessing and encouragement through it all.
"We truly have worked together and looked after each other.
"Now, we are grateful to be back at school learning together as restrictions are slowly eased.
"We may not fully know what next year will look like, but we do know that we've got a good community to face it with, because, as our primary knows very well, 'we're all in this together'.
"That truly has been the hallmark of Dubbo Christian School in 2020."
