There were 70 participants who united from Bathurst, both Orange clubs, Parkes, Dubbo and Wagga Wagga dragon boat clubs to challenge themselves to the 1648 kilometre track.

The 1648 kilometres represents the distance to each of the dragon boating clubs.

Parkes Dragon Boating Club coach Beth Thomas organised the event.

"COVID-19 imposed a lot of restrictions meaning dragon boaters were off the water for a long time, we wanted to do something to keep the clubs involved, stay active, and provide another option to paddling," Ms Thomas said.

"We've always had a strong connection to cancer from day dot, particularly women's cancers, but a lot of our men have been affected too so we wanted to support Cancer Council and all cancers."

Cancer Council western region representative Katherine Bodiczky said thousands of Australians were alive today thanks to cancer research, which was made possible by fundraisers like the dragon boaters' walk.

"Cancer Council is 94 per cent community funded so relies on the community to help fund our world class research, support services, prevention programs and advocacy," she said.

The event raised $700 for Cancer Council NSW.

The clubs presented their fundraising cheque to Cancer Council western volunteer Jo Krats in Parkes on Sunday.
