Steven and Kristy Canham have put in the long hours since buying the Wongarbon Ploughman's Rest Tavern.
They were thrilled to receive the Salute to Dubbo Business award, announced at the event hosted by the Dubbo Chamber of Commerce on Friday night.
"Both me and my wife thought it was a pretty good honour actually to be even classed in the same class as all the other [finalists]," Mr Canham said on Sunday.
"It was an absolute honour really to receive that award."
Mrs Canham, who along with her husband grew up at Coonamble, worked as a chef at Dubbo for 25 years before taking up the new challenge.
The duo paid tribute to each other's efforts, and to those of their staff.
"Yes, definitely, like all businesses, you've got to have your good staff, we're only as good as our staff," Mr Canham said.
The couple have a new venture, having recently taken on the Mitchell Inn down the road at Geurie.
"...we've ventured into another pub now, so all things are going well," Mr Canham said.
