It will cure the current need to circle the hospital's existing car parks by 2022.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard and Member for the Dubbo Electorate Dugald Saunders joined forces at the hospital on Thursday morning to release designs of two new and free-to-the-public car parks.

The next couple of state budgets would provide a total of $30 million for the project, Mr Saunders said.

A two-storey and 350-space car park is planned for the western side of the hospital campus, possibly for the use of staff.

On the south-eastern side of the hospital campus and near the new Emergency Department in the Macquarie Building, another car park will be built for patients and visitors.

Mr Saunders said together they would provide up to 380 new car park spaces and lift the total number of spaces to 926, double the number that existed before the hospital's redevelopment began.

"An extra 761 new and upgraded spaces" had been constructed during the four-stage and $241 million redevelopment, he said.

Tenders for the new car parks are expected to be called in early 2021.

"The good news is the building will start on this as soon as possible next year," Mr Saunders said.

Mr Hazzard said the $30 million was "on top" of the $241 million redevelopment funding and an investment which would allow easy access to the hospital for everyone.

He noted that people came to the hospital from across the western region.

"It's great to know that when you finally arrive there will be ample car park spaces," he said.

Mr Saunders thanked the community for its support in getting the project underway.

In 2019 he launched a petition which was signed by "thousands" of people in Dubbo and the region.

"Today is one of the most exciting days I've had in the short 18 months I've had in the role," Mr Saunders said.

Dubbo's Geoff Wise, who is Dubbo Health Council's representative on the car park working group, was part of the crowd that followed Mr Hazzard on a tour of the Macquarie Building on Thursday morning and saw the designs of the new car parks.

Mr Wise said the new facility on the western side of the hospital campus would offer hospital staff greater security and confidence in finding a park.

Mr Saunders said staff use of the new facility would free up spaces in existing car parks.
