Kristen and Mat Smith opened Loft 33 in Talbragar Street in July, as NSW's coronavirus travel restrictions eased.

Mrs Smith said Dubbo's popularity as a destination was evident in the demand for the freshly-renovated space, which is listed on Airbnb.

She's also seeing the trend as the owner of boutique The Gift Closet, located downstairs from the short-stay accommodation option.

"We've noticed since the [international and state] borders have been shut there's a huge influx of metropolitan visitors coming to Dubbo, which is just fabulous," she said.

"Loft 33 has been booked every night, yes, and they're all from metropolitan [areas] and they're all coming out to see our fabulous zoo, so thank God for our Dubbo zoo, and I know the Old Dubbo Gaol.

"But they just love Dubbo and the hospitality, they love how friendly we are here too, which is really, really nice."

The business owner said visitors were also enjoying Dubbo's "fabulous shops".

Loft 33 is one of a number of businesses and attractions reporting of a booming visitor economy this month.

As tourists flocked to Dubbo in the school holidays, Taronga Western Plains Zoo's accommodation hit 100 per cent occupancy and it welcomed more than 25,000 visitors in the two-week period.

The Old Dubbo Gaol had more than 8200 people through the gates, more than double the visitation of the same period in 2019.
