Mrs Pedrana said she is both 'honoured' and 'highly motivated' to be working on the mural, which has been described by residents to be 'vibrant' and 'eye-catching'.
"The theme of the mural is 'threatened species from around our region'," Mrs Pedrana said.
"Threatened species is something I've been working with for around two years, coming from the direction of introduced, feral species in our landscape, competing with indigenous fauna with overgrazing and habitat disturbing native flora.
"The mural is commissioned by NSW DPI, biodiversity and conservation division Dubbo and is on the western side of the Dubbo Visitors Centre.
"I'm honoured to be doing it.
"I completed the first 'panel' of five on Wednesday night."
Mrs Pedrana said since starting on the first panel she has already had 'visitors from all over Australia' come and look at the work.
"I'll be here for the next week or two, call in a say hi," she said.
"I had the Dubbo Mayor Ben Shields drop by as well, he's been very supportive of the local art community."
Mrs Pedrana said the mural looks 'magical' in the dark with the well lit lights casting over it.
Dubbo has welcomed several murals in recent months, which community members have embraced wholeheartedly.
Many of them have been done by the hands of outside artists, however, this one was not and the support of the local of a local artist has been well reciprocated.
The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, Saving Our Species Program funded the project, and the idea behind the picture is the brainchild of Dubbo Regional Council Environment, Energy and Science Staff.
The mural will cover the entire back wall, which has been split into five panels, with four more left to be painted, and she is currently working on the second.
Mrs Pedrana will continue working on the wall over the next couple of weeks and will be adding another four threatened species. Updates are also posted to the Gill Pedrana Art Facebook page.
