A sign at the entrance of the premises is now telling shoppers "New Kmart store opens Thursday 15th October", and bears the logo of the new brand.
Target, along with Coles, had been an anchor tenant in the Charter Hall-owned Dubbo Square in the city's central business district (CBD) for two decades.
This month a Charter Hall spokesperson said the company was "excited to be partnering with Kmart" on its new store in Dubbo Square.
"After a period of transitioning the space from Target to Kmart, we expect opening to occur mid-October 2020," the spokesperson said.
"Dubbo Square is a convenience-based centre and Kmart is a wonderful addition to the current offering.
"Kmart is a much-loved brand and with the closest store being nearly two hours away, we know the extended community are eagerly awaiting the opening.
"We are looking forward to welcoming customers into the new store in the next few weeks."
