On Friday morning, the 12-year-old finally reached the milestone in his journey where he was able to cut 37.5 centimetres off his hair at the Church Street Cafe, which pledged to donate 50 cents from every coffee they sold towards Mitchell's fundraiser.
Proud father and Mitchell's biggest supporter alongside his mother Bridgette, Luke Glynn, said the journey wasn't easy, but no one could influence Mitchell in any other way than the way he wanted to go.
"His mother and I are nothing but proud of him, and both his big sisters are super proud of him as well," Mr Glynn said.
"It makes me tear up, he did go through the whole bullying thing, you know, because he was a male with long hair, but he didn't care, all that mattered to him was the cause he was doing it for.
"He always had the option to stop if he wanted to, but he wouldn't, he wanted to make it to the end. For a young man to have that kind of determination, that's what makes me the proudest, and that's the most exciting part of today, that's he's done it.
"He's always been that way. When he played soccer he always ensured that everyone was included, even one of the other young fellas with down syndrome, its just in his nature."
The hair is now off to Variety, the Children's charity as part of its Hair with Heart campaign, but Mitchell is still accepting donations through his fundraising page and will continue to do so for the next four weeks.
Mr Glynn said he wanted to give special thanks to Church Street Cafe, as well as Justcuts at Dubbo Square who donated the cost of Mitchell's haircuts, $515, to the cause.
"Both businesses have been amazing. Justcuts has been trimming Mitchell's hair for the past four years free of charge, helping to maintain it," he said.
"This year has been incredibly hard for all business given COVID-19, so for them to support Mitchell is just incredible."
Mitchell has raised more than $1,500 so far, with Church Street Cafe to add an additional amount of money which will be announced on its Facebook Page over the next couple of days.
