It gives the Magpies captain even more motivation heading into the Western Youth League grand final.
Hartwig has been a star through the junior ranks in Group 11 and in 2018, as a 16-year-old, the powerhouse back-rower signed a deal with the Canterbury Bulldogs.
The plan was to finish under 18s with the Forbes and head to Belmore before the 2021 season.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a little confusion and put things on hold for now, but Hartwig is aware Sunday could be his farewell to the Magpies faithful
"It's always been a thought in my mind, that I might not get to play another game in Forbes," he said.
"I'd always love to come back to Forbes but it really depends on how football goes for me in the future."
Hartwig is one of a number of Magpies who will advance to the senior grades after Sunday.
The club has enjoyed a huge amount of success in the under 18s in recent times and the captain knew from the start his team was capable of delivering again in 2020.
"We always had the goal to make it to the end of the season and hopefully get the grand final," he said.
"But mainly to be consistent throughout the whole campaign, really. We were looking forward to play some different teams and it's been good to change it up a bit."
While there's been the chance to plays Group 10 sides, it was local rivals Parkes the Magpies met in last weekend's semi-finals.
They got the job done 16-6 in that game but were scrappy at times and Hartwig knows a better showing is needed on Sunday.
"Just be consistent," he said of what his side has to do.
"Sometimes we have a good start and others we're really slow so it's just about starting well and be consistent rather than just do it in patches."
Kick-off is 2.25pm at Forbes' Spooner Oval.
