Miss Buchanan is one of 160 students selected to attend the National Arts School HSC Intensive Studio Practise Program for 2020.
She applied for the program through the submission of four example drawings which focused on her life and was encouraged to do so by her visual arts teacher Lisa Wilson.
""My parents are my biggest influences as they both attended the National Art School and have always inspired me with their talent and passion for art," Miss Buchanan said.
"A university degree majoring in art and a career doing what I love would be a dream come true.
"Life drawing is something I've only recently become engrossed in. I would tend to paint or draw from references, so this has been fun, challenging and has definitely pushed me outside my comfort zone."
In addition to attending the program, Miss Buchanan was chosen to also attend an array of workshops, which are now scheduled for early 2021.
Mrs Wilson said the program is set to expose Miss Buchana to skills and
practices that will equip her for future success.
"Throughout the Life Drawing program, students will develop their observational drawing skills, proportional relationships and
the role of perspective in a number of focused life drawing sessions," Mrs Wilson said.
"We are excited for Rosas acceptance into the program and what it will provide for her.
"The skills Rosa will obtain will assist in her final year of school and major visual arts HSC body of work."
National Art School Education Outreach Coordinator Lorraine Kypiotis said Miss Buchanan was identified as a prospective applicant due to her passion, skill and excellent achievement in the visual arts preliminary course.
"Students who are accepted, apart from being passionate about art, must be nominated by their visual arts teacher. They must also be seen as achieving at the highest level in the visual arts preliminary course with the intention of completing visual arts in the HSC" Ms Kypiotis said.
Miss Buchanan was also recently elected as Dubbo College Senior Campus Arts Captain for 2021.
