Wirrimbirra is a program sitting within DCJ and is an Aboriginal Family Preservation service which supports vulnerable children within the community.
Wirrimbirra Program Manager Teena Bonham said the award was the result of a collective team effort.
"We were honoured to receive the award because we are such an infant entity within the DCJ. We were a humbled by it because there's so much good work being undertaken throughout the agency and there were some really strong nominations," Ms Bonham said.
"It was nice to be recognised but to actually win it was quite humbling.
"We are fortunate to have a remarkable team and we have been well supported from within our agency to help get us where we are."
Ms Bonham said at this stage Wirrimbirra is only taking referrals from DCJ, but the service hopes to grow in the future to be able to provide a suite of different interventions and support services to the broader community.
The NSW DJC Excellence in Practice Award recipients were announced during Child Protection Week and were presented by Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward.
The awards recognise NSW DCJ caseworkers, staff and programs helping to improve the lives of children and young people.
