Council recently held a meeting with stakeholders from the DRLM, facilitated by the Western Research Institute.
In a report on the outcomes, which will be presented at the council meeting on Monday night, director culture and economy Natasha Comber said the workshop "was designed to discuss future planning for the facility and provide opportunity for all stakeholder to raise issues and opportunities".
As well as considering a new Saleyards Advisory Committee, council is also looking at a shake-up of the store cattle sales.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
As it currently stands, there are two combined store cattle sales held two or three times a month, as well as the regular prime cattle sales every Thursday.
Ms Comber said in recent years there had been "increased lobbying to council by multiple agents and users of DRLM" for a combined store cattle sale.
When looking at the data across the past 15 years, Ms Comber said the numbers at store cattle sales had been declining "for a number of reasons including drought, online sales and increase of store stock being sold through regular prime sales". Based on the decline, the council director said there was a need for stakeholders to consider alternatives.
The Dubbo Stock and Station Agents did not have an agreed position on combining the store cattle sales and and the stakeholders who attended the workshop were also divided.
Following the workshop it was recommended that Saleyards management create a two stage strategy for the frequency of the store sales.
The first stage will outline a plan for while the stock levels are rebuilding and the second stage will be for when the stock levels are back to normal.
The plan will then be presented to the Dubbo Regional Livestock Markets Technical Advisory Panel when it's established.
The council meeting will be held on Monday night from 5.30pm in the Dubbo council chambers. A limited number of people will be permitted into the chambers in keeping with the COVID-19 regulations.
For those who want to follow the meeting from home, it will be livestreamed on the Dubbo Regional Council website and Facebook page.
