The students have already accumulated more than $20,000 for this year's chosen year 12 charity, Clare's Angels, through bake and fire bucket sales, and are hoping their final event, an online auction, will see them reach a total of $25,000.
The 2020 class have already beat last years efforts of $15,000, but are determined to not stop there. The online auction was the brainchild of year 12 student Hannah McKeown who sought the inspiration from the success of an online fundraising auction hosted by her family earlier in the year.
"My family did one for Molly Croft and it was quite successful so I thought it would be a good idea to do it again, especially considering COVID-19," Miss McKeown said.
Miss McKeown said the students were initially worried about how they would raise funds given COVID-19, which required them to think outside of the box.
Miss McKeown worked with the year 12 prefect team and the rest of the year 12 students to organise the auction which will be running online until September 20.
"We have two NRL Jerseys, one from the Panthers and one from NSW State of Origin, which are both signed by the players," Miss McKeown said.
"We also have an array of donations from Molly's Place including two large canvas paintings, and we have a polished concrete table donated from Shane Burns from Wellington."
Each year St John's College year 12 students choose a local charity to raise funds for throughout through hosting various events.
The students this year chose Clare's Angels, a Dubbo born not for profit organisation benefiting children with special needs and disabilities. Miss McKeown said the students chose the charity as many are familiar with its history and know many families who it benefits.
