Dams across the Central West are continuing to rise thanks to good winter rainfall that's continued into spring.

Up to 20 millimetres of rain is expected on Wednesday in Bathurst, Lithgow, Mudgee and Orange, with the chance of 10mm in Dubbo.

While there are currently no weather warnings in place for the region, there is the chance of thunderstorms in the west.

By 8am on Wednesday 4.8 millimetres of rain had already been recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology in Lithgow, with 0.6mm in Bathurst and 0.2mm in Orange.

By the same time, rain was yet to be recorded in Dubbo and Mudgee.

The water level at Chifley Dam near Bathurst is currently at 95.5 per cent capacity, Wyangala Dam is 58.2 per cent, Burrendong Dam is at 44.5 per cent, Carcoar Dam is at 29.5 per cent and Windamere is at 28.9 per cent.

The combined storage of Suma Park and Spring Creek dams near Orange is 55.8 per cent.
