Western shot out to a 3-0 lead in the National Premier Leagues 4 clash at Blacktown Football Park on the back of outstanding build up play and precise finishing in the opening 20 minutes.

But the run to half-time was less impressive, as the hosts scored twice to get themselves back in the game.

Victory was back on the agenda for Western when they regained a two goal margin but Prospect continued to throw players forward for the rest of the half and the numbers were too much to contain.

"It's one of those games you call a coach killer. You're pulling your hair out wondering what's going on, but that opening 20 minutes was some of the best football I've seen us playing in the last three to four years," Western coach Mark Rooke said.

"But the next 15 minutes we let them straight back in. We were cruising but then we took the foot off the pedal when we should have been ruthless."

Damien Booth put Western ahead early from a corner and Daniel Baumgartner cleaned up a blocked Matt Hobby strike to quickly double the advantage.

The dream start continued when Booth put Dylan Bell into space, who in turn delivered a perfect cross to Jesse Boness for the finish.

Prospect were quick to hit back as soon as the intensity from Western began to dip, and it could have been 3-all at the break if not for a Jordan Bruce save on a penalty kick.

The eradication of a three goal lead could have got to the visitors but they kept their heads high and got out to 4-2 on the back of a clinical Boness shot to the low corner.

But a couple of defensive lapses let Prospect salvage a point and leave Western in a real fight for a place in the looming finals.
