Snow fell in some towns during the final month of winter, and residents shivered through well below average temperatures on many days.
Orange recorded the coldest temperature during the month at -5.8 degrees which is well below the August median minimum of 0.8.

Mudgee's coldest day was -4.5 degrees (monthly median of 1.5).
The coldest day in Bathurst and Dubbo was -3.4 degrees, with the month's median minimum of 1.1 degrees and 3.1 respectively.
It may have been a very chilly month, but on Saturday, August 29 temperatures were spring like right across the region.
In Dubbo the mercury soared to 22.1 degrees (the monthly median maximum is 17.6), while in Mudgee it was 19.7 (median of 16.3), and it was 18.8 in Bathurst (median of 13.8).

Lithgow's sunny Saturday was 18.4 degrees (median of 12.0) and in Orange the temperature spiked at 17.3 degrees (median of 11.3).
Rainfall was also well above average in the five towns.
Orange recorded the most rain during August at 121.0 millimetres which is well above the month's median of 80.6mm.
Lithgow had 110.6mm (median of 63.4mm), Bathurst had 59.0mm (median of 39.0mm), Dubbo had 39.0mm (median of 34.1mm) and Mudgee had 38.2mm (median of 34.3mm).
