The Access at a Glance program saw Dubbo Regional Council partner with organisation Social Futures to place signage at eight Council facilities indicating the level of service for people with disabilities.
The program helps create engagement within the community and start a conversation around access and inclusion.
The free stickers also allows people with access needs to instantly recognise how accessible a space is.
The facilities with the new signage include the:
- Dubbo Central Administration Building.
- Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre.
- Western Plans Cultural Centre.
- Macquarie Regional Libraries (Dubbo and Wellington)..
- Visitors Information Centres (Dubbo and Wellington)
- Wellington Administration Building.
- Wellington Civic Centre.
- Wellington Senior Citizen Centre.
Dubbo Regional Council mayor Ben Shields said it was a fantastic project from Social Futures and was glad Council could partner with them.
"It is a priority of the Council and of mine to make Dubbo the most disability-friendly regional city in Australia and an important part of that is letting people know what services are available when they walk into one of our facilities," he said.
Cr Shield said anyone who enters the premises with this signage can now know just how accessible it is by looking on the front door.
"Council has taken a proactive approach and I hope that that other business across our region, and other Councils may decide to follow our lead," he said.
