If anything, he's to do the exact opposite.
The Raiders will do battle with local rivals CYMS at Apex Oval on Saturday and Kelly knows there's plenty on the line for the youngsters on both sides.
"The biggest thing is to wind them down rather than wind them up," Kelly laughed.
"After training on Tuesday we had a talk about it and I said it would be the last talk about who we're playing against.
"But there's a lot at stake because they all go to school together."
Both the Raiders and CYMS are coming off a first win for the shortened season last weekend.
The Raiders scored a commanding 28-4 win over Cowra after a 20-all draw with Parkes in the opening round of the season.

The side is predominantly made up of players who have graduated from last year's title-winning under 16s team, one which Kelly also coached.
And while he's got no doubt the Raiders have wait it takes to make a real impact in the competition
"I just want them to enjoy themselves," he said.
"We've only got six games left after this so just get out their and enjoy it but play within the structure we've set.
"But they don't need to be afraid to try something if it's on."
Maclay Ryan is one of the few top-age players in the side and he will lead the Raiders out again on Saturday.
He's someone Kelly looks to while he's also been impressed by Nyngan recruit Sonny Knight.
Hooker Dalin Smith has also made the leap from 16s last year, along with Aston Warwick, Brandon Hamilton, Macauley Ryan, and Blake Merritt.
Kick-off is 12pm Saturday and the match is a curtain-raiser to the Presidents Cup clash between CYMS and the Western Rams.
