The suggestion from chief executive officer Michael McMahon is that councillors move to level one, with another review to be undertaken in October.
While water use has been down, because we have had a bit of rain over the past few months, and even the past couple of days, it doesn't mean we can just go back to what we were doing.
Dubbo was hit hard by the drought, and we aren't out of the woods just yet. Just because we have green grass around again, doesn't mean we should be flippant with out water use.
What happens if the rain over the weekend was the last we get for many more months?
We are on level three at the moment, why not just go back to level two? Why make such a jump back to one?
Mr McMahon said in his report to councillors that residential consumption is 160 litres per person per day, well below the target of 380 litres per person per day for level one.
But because of the rain, many people aren't needing to water their gardens, and residents have also become more water wise.
If level one restrictions were to be introduced there would be no limit on the amount of watering that could be undertaken by residents in the local government area.
However, the watering has to be attended or on a programmable timed system.
With many residents having managed to keep their gardens alive in some fashion during the drought, is it not better to maintain those methods and make sure we have some water stored for when we may need it in the future.
We need to remember what we have been through, and prepare as well as we can for the future.
