After ten years of fundraising for the project, Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) and Friends of the Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden have completed the installation of four sandstone sculptures.

The sculptures are facilitated within the Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden, located in the biodiversity section of the botanic gardens (behind the Japanese Gardens).
The sculptures are depictions of Australian native animals including a frog, wombat, platypus and goanna.
Dubbo mayor Ben Shields said the animals were selected as they are local species and the garden is reflective of their natural habitat.
"As part of the project DRC will work with the local Aboriginal community to install interpretative signage to display the Wiradjuri names of the animals," Clr Shields said.
"Council was extremely supportive of the project and facilitated the planning and installation of the sculptures.
The sculptures were created by artist Newton Bishop, who also created the gecko that was carved in situ at the Sensory Garden also in Dubbo.
"Newton has family connections to Dubbo and was very enthusiastic to create sculptures for the Dubbo community," Clr Shields sai.d
Friends of the Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden raised upwards of $25,000 to initiate the project on a volunteer basis.
